UNUG Scholars

UNUG Scholars are the heart of the Global UNUG Network. We provide transformative educational access to youth across Somalia, focusing on regions and communities most affected by poverty, conflict, and exclusion. Our aim is not just access, but success — helping young people transition from education to employment with confidence and competence.

What We Offer

University Scholarships

Full or partial tuition coverage for promising students

02

Vocational & Digital Skills Training

Short-term, industry-aligned trade courses

03

Special scholarships and support services to empower young women to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics

04

Career Development Support

• Mentorship from diaspora professionals

• Soft skills coaching and resume preparation

• Livelihood startup kits for entrepreneurial graduates

Our scholars are selected through a transparent and equitable process and are tracked post-graduation to ensure long-term impact.

UNUG Fellows

The UNUG Fellowship enables skilled Somali diaspora professionals to return home and contribute to local development through short-term, high-impact placements (1–3 months). Fellows share knowledge, mentor local staff, and help improve systems across sectors.

Placement Sectors Include:

  • Ministries (Planning, Health, Education, Labour)
  • Universities, TVET Centers and Secondary Schools
  • Public and Private Hospitals
  • NGOs and Civil Society Organizations
  • Startups and Digital Hubs

Fellowship Tracks

Track 1: Global to Local Fellows

Diaspora youth and mid-career professionals who bring technical expertise, cultural fluency, and a desire to give back. These fellows engage in hands-on service while strengthening institutional capacity across Somalia.

Track 2: Legacy Builders

Seasoned experts, senior professionals, and retirees who offer decades of experience, mentorship, and strategic insight. Legacy Builders focus on high-impact advisory roles, leadership coaching, and systems-level transformation.

Fellows Receive

  • Pre-departure orientation and travel coordination
  • Local accommodation and cultural immersion support
  • A platform to share their post-placement report and recommendations
  • Ongoing connection to the Global UNUG Circle (Alumni & Advisors)

UNUG Stories

Stories are at the heart of transformation. Our multimedia series, ” UNUG Stories,” showcases:

Personal accounts from scholars rising from rural villages to university halls

Diaspora fellows reflecting on their return journeys and the lives they touch

Local community leaders witnessing tangible change

Each story serves as inspiration and documentation — reminding us that hope, when nurtured with action, becomes legacy.
